A whole-home air purifier is any duct-mounted accessory that treats air beyond what a standard filter provides. The major categories are:
- HEPA bypass systems — best particle removal, well-validated science.
- Electronic air cleaners — electrostatically charge particles to capture them; older but well-understood technology.
- Activated carbon stages — adsorb gaseous contaminants and odors.
- UV-C lamps — kill biological growth on the coil and in the airstream.
- PCO / ionizers / hydroxyl generators — variable scientific validation; some products produce ozone as a byproduct.
We layer purposefully: filter for particulate, dehumidifier for moisture, UV for biological. We don't install accessories without a defensible IAQ symptom to address.
