CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute)

The volume of air the blower moves through the duct system per minute — proper CFM matters as much as proper tonnage.

CFM (cubic feet per minute) measures airflow — the volume of air the blower moves through your duct system every minute. Residential systems typically move 350-450 CFM per ton of cooling, depending on equipment and climate (humid climates like ours typically design toward the lower end for better moisture removal).

Actual CFM in your system depends on blower speed, duct sizing, static pressure, filter restriction, and register restriction. Two systems with identical equipment can deliver very different airflow if their duct systems differ.

CFM can be measured directly with a balometer or estimated from static pressure plus the manufacturer's blower-performance chart. Any quality commissioning includes a CFM verification.
