Blower Motor

The fan motor inside the air handler or furnace that pushes conditioned air through your duct system — ECM blowers are variable-speed and quieter.

The blower motor drives the indoor fan that moves air through your HVAC system — pulling it from return registers, pushing it across the evaporator or heat exchanger, and distributing it through the supply ducts.

Two main types: PSC (permanent split capacitor) motors run at fixed RPM, drawing more power and only able to adjust airflow by belt change or speed tap. ECM (electronically commutated motor) blowers are variable-speed electronic motors that can ramp from low to high airflow continuously — significantly quieter, more efficient, and better at humidity control.

ECM blowers are standard on most modern variable-speed and two-stage equipment, and are required to fully realize the humidity-control benefits of those systems.
