Variable-Speed

Also known as: Inverter Compressor

A compressor or blower that runs at infinite speeds rather than just on/off — better humidity control, quieter, more efficient in our climate.

"Variable-speed" describes equipment (typically the compressor and/or the blower motor) that can run at any output level between roughly 25% and 100%, rather than just on/off. On the compressor side, this is often called "inverter" technology because it uses variable-frequency drive electronics to modulate motor speed.

The benefit in Charleston's humid climate is significant: a variable-speed compressor runs at low output for long periods, pulling moisture out of the air continuously. Single-stage systems run hard for short bursts and remove less moisture per cycle.

Variable-speed equipment is more expensive upfront but delivers measurably better comfort (no temperature swings, better humidity control) and lower operating cost over time.
